JILES MOLINA | ABBOTSFORD, BC, CANADA

Short Bio:
My name is Jiles Molina, I’m 19 and I’m from Abbotsford, British Columbia, Canada. I’m a self taught photographer, and I’ve been shooting film (35mm to 4×5) since I was 16.

What is your work about?
This is a question I always avoid asking myself, partly because I don’t know and partly because I think I’m afraid to find an “about”. At the present, I just take photos to take photos. Which in itself could be what my work is about; the joy of taking photos, wandering the streets and finding something to snap shots of.

How does photographing on film (or using your material photographic process of predilection) inform your artistic practice?
I’ve never owned a digital camera besides the one in my phone, I started on film when my grandmother gave me her old SLR. Shooting on film just feels natural, it’s something I’ve been doing for the whole of my late teenagehood. Film is now part of my identity, and without an identity, how can you create art?
