Biography:
Vinna Laudico is Indonesian born, MFA graduate from Academy of Arts University in San Francisco, California. Now based in Montreal, Canada after several years living in the coast of Australia.
Artist Statement:
Having lived in several countries in last two decades, my photography practice explores the issue of cultural differences and identity, a lifelong search of physical and emotional placement.
A Near Stranger started over 3 years ago in Montreal, Canada, the project depicts different personas placed within its own narrative and formal qualities captured from the same one person. The everyday life photographic approach is utilized to examine the possible space between fantasy and reality.
Practice Statement: How does photographing on film (or using your material photographic process of predilection) inform your artistic practice?
Photographing on film exclusively and translating it by analog printing my own work in the darkroom are the only natural process for me in making photographs.
