CHERYLE ST. ONGE: FINDING THE POETIC IN THE PEDESTRIAN
FRIDAY MARCH 17 – SUNDAY MARCH 19, 2023


This is a three-day workshop designed to help intermediate and advanced artists find a stronger voice in their work. We will look at my past projects, discuss art and editorial work, as well as career trajectory. A great deal of time will focus on viewing and discussing your work in-depth. Our reviews and conversations will also touch on many crucial aspects of contemporary photographic practice, such as nurturing creativity, breakdown of approach to making new work, creating a core critique group within your life and community, work flow and organization, down to equipment and chance.


SCHEDULE: Meets online on the following days and times:
Friday, March 17: 11am-2pm (New York), 8-11am (Los Angeles), 5-8pm (Paris)
Saturday, March 18: 11am-5pm (New York), 8am-2pm (Los Angeles), 5-11pm (Paris)
Sunday, March 19: 11am-5pm (New York), 8am-2pm (Los Angeles), 5- 11pm (Paris)
All times include breaks. A list of materials to prepare, upload portfolio page links & Zoom classroom logins will be provided a week before the start of class.

CLASS STRUCTURE: Artist lead lecture(s) and directed activities (assignment) + Group-based critiques

ABOUT CHERYLE ST. ONGE


Cheryle St. Onge grew up in rural New England, the daughter of a painter and physics professor. Riding horses as a child shaped her curiosity of nature. She received my M.F.A., from Mass Art and has been on the photography faculty of Clark University, Maine College of Art and Univ of New Hampshire. St. Onge is the recipient of a Polaroid Artist Support Grant, Guggenheim Fellowship, Critical Mass Exhibition Award, New Hampshire Charitable Arts Grant Her work is privately and publicly held, most notably, the Polaroid Corp, the Univ. New Mexico Art Museum, the MFA Houston and the Guggenheim Foundation. St. Onge’s editorial works has appeared in New York Times, The New Yorker, The Guardian and Time Magazine.
