FOTOFILMIC OPEN SECOND EDITION (2026)
FOTOFILMIC is thrilled to announce the second edition of “FOTOFILMIC OPEN”, its annual open exhibition call inviting photographers & photographic artists from all horizons and nationalities to exhibit their latest projects (including digital based ones!) at the FOTOFILMIC Space on Bowen Island (metro Vancouver BC) this coming spring from May 2-31, 2026!
Submissions are open until New Year’s eve (December 31, 2025, 11:59 PM PST) and will be reviewed by an outstanding jury panel whose members are unanimously recognized for their important contributions to shaping contemporary photographic discourse. Their intercrossing curatorial, editorial, and publishing expertises are sure to create a bold, meaningful space for visibility and dialogue through the resulting 2026 FOTOFILMIC OPEN exhibition that will present the work of their final six chosen photographers (each jury member is selecting two).

2026 FOTOFILMIC OPEN EXHIBITION AT A GLANCE
☞ NO-COST EXHIBITION: The 2026 FOTOFILMIC OPEN Exhibition will be entirely produced by FotoFilmic at no cost to the exhibitors (see the exhibition section below for more details)
☞ FEATURE JRNL PUBLICATION: A feature “JRNL” newsprint publication will accompany the exhibition to facilitate the dissemination of the exhibited works within the global photography community

JURORS

AMANDA WEBSTER
Amanda Webster is a photo editor at The New York Times, where she commissions and edits photography for the Culture desk. Prior to the Times, she was a photo editor at The Wall Street Journal Magazine, and her work has been recognized by the American Photography, and National Press Photographers Association. Amanda holds a BFA in Photography from Rochester Institute of Technology.

CHRISTOPHER MCCALL
Christopher McCall is a curator, advisor, and arts leader whose practice bridges museum presentation and artist advocacy. After earning his MFA in photography from California College of the Arts in 2002, he taught for seven years before joining Pier 24 Photography in 2009 as its founding director. Over the next decade, McCall helped shape the organization’s mission and operating principles, opening its doors in 2010 and overseeing thirteen exhibitions. McCall has also curated exhibitions at the Aperture Foundation in New York, with shows that have traveled to the Rencontres d’Arles in Arles, France, the High Museum in Atlanta, and the Bombas Gens Centre d’Art in Valencia, Spain. In 2020, McCall founded Parallax, an artist agency and advisory in San Francisco that supports photographers through every stage of their practice—from book projects and museum placements to community engagement and studio development.

EXHIBITION DETAILS
2026 FOTOFILMIC OPEN Exhibition dates:
Saturday May 2 – Sunday May 31, 2026 (Saturday, May 2 afternoon opening)
OPEN Exhibition format: by default each OPEN exhibitor (6 total) will be allocated the following approximate wall space dimensions:
9′ (L) x 8′ (H) / 2.75 m (L) x 2.45 m (H)
OPEN Exhibition layout: as a starting point of conversation, OPEN Exhibitors will be asked to provide a layout/mockup of how they would envision their work to be displayed in their exhibition section. It can be a simple drawing snapshot with your phone, or a more elaborated digital design, both are fine. Exhibition layout proposals will be further discussed by the FotoFilmic team for approval.

OPEN Exhibition print media, print number and sizes: the largest print size allowed is 30″x40″ (75×100 cm approximately). It’s perfectly fine to include various print sizes in your overall exhibition layout. Depending on print sizes, the maximum number of prints allowed will usually vary between 8-12 .
OPEN Exhibition print media: by default works to be exhibited will be printed on Epson Enhanced Matt 180gsm color paper (unless specified otherwise).
ONLINE CONSULTATIONS WITH THE JURORS
All individual online meetings will be hosted by FotoFilmic via Zoom, and be scheduled in consultation with both the jurors and the exhibitors. Exhibitors only receive one complimentary meeting with the juror that selected them. All meetings will last 40 minutes. Detailed scheduling information will be forwarded to the exhibitors before the May 2nd opening.
PUBLICATION DETAILS
For the accompanying feature newsprint JRNL publication, exhibitors will be required to send a high resolution image file of each final work to be exhibited.
