FotoFilmic was founded in 2012 in Vancouver, BC, Canada as a global film photography competition and publication & curation platform dedicated to emerging and unknown photo talents attached to film and analogue practices worldwide. FOTOFILMIC’16 is the 4th edition of its annual juried film photography competition and traveling exhibition program.
In the global context of digital technology FotoFilmic reflects an ongoing transformative understanding of Film Photography as a distinctive fine art medium and practice within contemporary photography. While most film shooters are still presently found in academic art departments pursing advanced degrees or working commercially, FotoFilmic’s core intention is to open wide the publication doors of contemporary film photography to all talented amateurs without restriction of ages or nationality demonstrating high quality of execution and creative envisioning.
The 4th iteration of the FotoFilmic Call excitingly expands our global film photography reach and network of partners for the first time in the Southern Hemisphere! For the 2016-2017 FotoFilmic’16 exhibition season we are pleased to collaborate with Photobook Melbourne‘s Director Heidi Romano to bring closer together two of the youngest and most effervescent photography scenes, Canada and Australia, in shaping yet another powerful statement as testimony to the thriving renaissance of photography on film and material photography around the world while returning to America’s fastest growing art market in Los Angeles at dnj Gallery!

FotoFilmic is pleased to announce for its 4th Call for Entries a new prestigious sponsor – Vancouver’s Buschlen Mowatt Nichol Foundation – to award FotoFilmic’16’s future top winner a $1,500 Award!
