GUEST CURATORS & EDITORS
Rachel Barker is a photographer who studied at Central Saint Martins; Gregory Barker is an editor who studied at The London College of Communication. In 2014 they founded STANLEY/BARKER, a publishing house based in the English countryside with the philosophy of combining design and content as closely as possible to make truly original books. In the first five years STANLEY/BARKER has collaborated with artists such as Bill Henson, Tod Papageorge and Mark Steinmetz, to publish some of the most celebrated books of the decade.
Guest Curators Rachel & Gregory Barker of famed London publishing house STANLEY/BARKER are interested in reviewing a wide variety of works authored from many contemporary perspectives. Innovative approaches to all genres of photography, as well as rigorous technical execution and refined aesthetics are therefore essential to successful submissions. Photographers may submit up to 10 photographs from either a single body of work or from different series.
Guest curators/editors directly review all submissions (no shortlisting) and select 12 photographers and portfolios from which to thread a common narrative into each new JRNL issue.
JRNL is all analog: all images submitted must have been captured either on film (any format or type) or using other analog imaging processes (paper, glass, alternative processes, etc.). No digital captures are accepted. Works shot on film, then scanned and postedited are all eligible to be entered.
JRNL strives to present photography that is current and reflective of today’s critical focuses and societal narratives: work entered must have been thus created after January 2010.
