JRNL 12 SPRING 2022 ISSUE OPEN CALL


NOW ACCEPTING ALL FILM-BASED AND ANALOGUE PROJECTS TO BE PUBLISHED BY GUEST-EDITOR CAROLINE TOMPKINS!

JRNL 12 submissions accept all types of analogue methods relevant to today’s photographic practices. Scanned film/negatives post-edited in Photoshop or other image editing software are also welcome. Each individual submission accepts up to 10 image files drawn from the same series/project. Photographers are allowed a maximum of 2 different submissions if wanting to present 2 different series/projects. All works submitted will be directly reviewed  by Caroline (no shortlisting), who will handpick and curate 12 photographers/artists together in JRNL 12 Issue for lasting, heightened recognition on the international photography scene.

Published photographers will each receive 2 full color portfolio spreads (23″x15″) to present their work along with a biography and statement of practice. In addition, Caroline will write an introductory curatorial statement reflecting on all the selected works, and award the front and back JRNL 12 covers to 2 of her winners for even greater exposure. All published photographers will receive a complimentary JRNL 12 print copy in the mail at no cost to them.

GUEST EDITOR CAROLINE TOMPKINS


Originally from Cincinnati, Ohio, Caroline Tompkins (b.1992) received a BFA in Photography from the School of Visual Arts in New York City. She has exhibited nationally and internationally, with her work featured on the BBC, Vogue, and The New York Times among many others. Caroline worked as a photo editor at Bloomberg Businessweek, Vice Magazine, and currently holds a Senior Photo Editor position at Vice.com. She teaches a class on photography theory at the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan. Mostly, she is a freelance photographer for editorial and commercial clients. Caroline lives in Queens, NY.

ELIGIBLE WORK


JRNL is all analogue: all images submitted must have been captured on film (any format or type) or using any other analogue imaging process (paper, glass, alternative processes, etc.). No straight digital captures are accepted. Works shot on film, then scanned and postedited are all eligible to be entered. JRNL strives to present photography that is relevant to today’s photographic culture: all works submitted must have been created after January 2015
