JRNL 7 OPEN CALL : WINTER 2021 ISSUE
OPEN TO ALL ANALOG PHOTOGRAPHERS: GET YOUR PROJECTS UNDER GUEST EDITORS JACQUELINE BATES & ERICA DEEMAN’S EYES!
Submissions welcome all types of analog & film photography entries and can include a series of up to 10 photographs. All submissions will be directly reviewed by both Jacqueline and Erica (no shortlisting), who will carefully and collaboratively pick their issue’s 12 photographers they feel most deserve to have the visibility of their work elevated on the international contemporary photography scene this winter.
Each photographer selected for the JRNL 7 Winter 2021 Issue will receive 2 full portfolio spreads to present their work to be accompanied by a written statement from the editors, gifting them with a powerful and lasting endorsement from the best of the photography industry. In addition one JRNL 7 photographer will also be awarded both covers for even greater exposure and recognition. As soon as the first press run is received, a complimentary JRNL 7 physical copy will be mailed to each published photographer free of any cost.

Jacqueline Bates is Photography Director of The California Sunday Magazine, which won the National Magazine Award for excellence in photography two years in a row, in 2016 and 2017, and Pop-Up Magazine. Previously, she was senior photo editor of W Magazine and worked in the photo departments of ELLE, Interview, and Wired. Bates holds an MFA in photography from the School of Visual Arts, and her work has been exhibited internationally.
Erica Deeman lives and works in San Francisco. She is the recipient of the 2019 Headlands Center for the Arts Residency and currently has a solo exhibition at Anthony Meier Fine Arts. JRNL is all analog: all images submitted must have been captured either on film (any format or type) or using other analog imaging processes (paper, glass, alternative processes, etc.). No digital captures are accepted. Works shot on film, then scanned and postedited are all eligible to be entered. JRNL strives to present photography that is relevant to today’s photographic culture: all works submitted must have been created after January 2010.

FLAT SUBMISSION FEE: $25USD for 10 images
JRNL is FotoFilmic’s new quarterly newsprint publication. Each edition is associated with a JRNL Open Call juried & guest-edited by a highly recognized professional curator or editor of photography who personally reviews all submissions to pick and curate 12 photographers per issue. Published photographers each receive 2 full color photo spreads accompanied by a writeup from the guest-editor. Guest editors also award the front & back covers of their issue to one of their selected photographers for even more exposure. Published photographers receive a complimentary JRNL print copy in the mail at no cost. JRNL print copies are also available for purchase online, and are distributed internationally at select exhibition partnering venues in Canada, USA, Australia, Europe and Asia.
