OPEN CALL: JRNL 14
EDITED BY CORALIE KRAFT
VISUALS EDITOR & WRITER
JRNL 14 FALL 2022 ISSUE CALL
This fall we are thrilled to welcome one of the industry’s most accomplished photo writers and editors, Coralie Kraft, as guest editor of JRNL 14! Coralie has worked across many prominent photography platforms, and is currently with The New York Times Magazine. Let your work speak to her directly! This is your chance to pitch Coralie your finished or nearly finished projects/series, and have them endorsed in a lasting and meaningful way on the global photography scene! Submit up to two projects to JRNL 14 by Sunday, July 31st (scroll down to find the submission form)!
JRNL 14 submissions are open to all types of analogue work that exist in today’s fast evolving photographic space (see the “eligible work” section below for more details). Submissions accept up to 20 image files drawn from the same series/project (encouraged), or from a maximum of 2 different ones (10 images/10 images). Entrants are allowed a maximum of 2 different submissions per call (40 images total). Once validated, submissions will be forwarded at the end of the call to JRNL 14 guest editor Coralie Kraft, who will carefully review all works over the course of August to select her 12 final photographers/artists to be published in JRNL 14 for global visibility, and sending a clear signal to the industry as to their artistic significance for the coming years.
Published photographers will each receive 2 full color portfolio spreads (23″x15″) to present their work, accompanied by a short biography and statement of practice. Coralie will also write a few forewords commenting on the general directions and topical intersections of the works and artists presented in her issue. In mid-September during preproduction she will also award the front and back JRNL 14 covers to 1 of 2 of her selected photographers, for even greater exposure. In October, all published JRNL 14 photographers will be mailed a complimentary hard copy of the issue (no cost to them).
Started with JRNL 13 and continuing with this new JRNL 14 issue, all photographers will also have the opportunity to take part in the inaugural JRNL Show to be mounted at the FotoFilmic space during the summer of 2023 (exact dates TBC). The show will feature a total of 48 photographers published in JRNL 13 (Summer ’22), JRNL 14 (Fall ’22), and the upcoming JRNL 15 (Winter ’23) and JRNL 16 (Spring ’23) editions. The JRNL exhibition is entirely free of cost to all the participating photographers.
